GPA Calculator

Use the GPA Calculator to determine what grades you need in your classes to achieve your target GPA. (This form was developed in Microsoft Excel. If your computer does not have Excel, you will not be able to open the file.)

Instructions for Using GPA Calculator

  1. Open the GPA Calculator in Microsoft Excel. The file is set up so that you can enter information into three sets of formulas.
  2. To begin, click cell E6 and enter your target cumulative GPA. The numerical value will appear in the cell.
  3. Click cell E8 and enter the number of hours you have attempted at JMU. The numerical value will appear in the cell.
  4. Click cell E10 and enter the number of hours remaining toward your degree. The numerical value will appear in the cell.
  5. Click cell E12 and enter the number of quality points you have earned. (This information is available on your unofficial transcript on e-campus.) The numerical value appears in the cell.
  6. Retrieve the minimum GPA you will need to earn on your remaining academic hours from cell E15. This value adjusts as you enter new information into the preceeding cells.
  7. Repeat steps 1-6 with the other two sets of formulas to compile other GPA values.

Notice that the GPA Calculator also lists the GPA scores that result in academic suspensions based on the total hours attempted.
